Events kick off June 13 with Summer Market

DEARBORN — The city will host dozens of community events throughout summer, prioritizing community engagement, local business growth, and enhanced walkability in its downtown areas. These efforts include strategic road closures on West Village Drive, designed to create safer pedestrian zones and foster a lively atmosphere for residents and visitors alike.

A cornerstone of the city’s summer festivities is the Dearborn Summer Market in downtown west Dearborn. This year, the market will move to its new home at PEACE Park West, 22271 West Village Drive. Dearborn’s Summer Market kicks off on June 13 from 4-8 p.m. The city will host two additional Summer Market days on July 11 and Aug 8.

The Dearborn Summer Market, hosted by the West Dearborn Downtown District Authority, showcases businesses and facilitates their growth and visibility while simultaneously drawing the community and visitors to the downtown areas to explore the fantastic brick-and-mortar establishments surrounding these activated spaces. The market features local vendors, free kids’ activities, and resource tables from regional organizations.

The Summer Market series is set to be the largest vendor gathering the park has hosted to date, featuring more than 40 vendors throughout the season offering a diverse array of goods and services. Some 60 percent of market vendors are Dearborn-based businesses.

The Dearborn Summer Market offers free activities for families, including face painting, balloon twisting, games, caricature art, and various crafts. Attendees can also look forward to live music and programming at the market, including a free concert with the Crampton Brothers on June 13.

The city will once again present its annual series “Movies in the Park,” hosted by the East Dearborn Downtown Development Authority Thursdays at PEACE Park East, 13621 Michigan Ave.

Families are invited to enjoy free, family-friendly film screenings on June 26, July 24, and Aug. 21. The series kicks off with the highly anticipated community-voted screening of Disney’s “Mufasa” on June 26.

“Despicable Me 4” will be shown July 24, and “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” will be shown August. 21.

All showings will begin between 8:30 and 9 p.m. as dusk settles. Attendees may take their own chairs and blankets. Food and beverage options will be available on-site for purchase while supplies last.

West Village Drive will continue to experience road closures periodically throughout the summer between Mason Street and Howard Street to enhance public safety, boost walkability, and further activate downtown west Dearborn to connect local businesses with patrons over the summer months.

During the Dearborn Summer Market, West Village Drive will be closed between Howard and Tenny streets. This closure will not impede access to the parking deck structures adjacent to PEACE Park West.
