The Dearborn and Dearborn Heights police departments are joining forces to welcome a teen battling brain and spinal cancer for a VIP visit to metropolitan Detroit Sept. 27 and 28.
DJ Daniels, 13, a resident of the Houston, has battled the disease for several years, having endured a number of surgeries throughout his lifetime. The son of a U.S. Navy veteran, he is making the visit courtesy of the Minutes Wisely organization, which provides experiences like this for children of veterans, emergency responders and Gold Star families who are facing serious medical challenges.
His visit will include a trip to the Dearborn Heights Police Department Sept. 27, where he will be sworn in as an honorary police officer of both the Dearborn and Dearborn Heights departments. On Sept. 28, DJ and his father will be treated to a trip to Ford Field to watch the Detroit Lions battle the Cleveland Browns.
“We are excited to welcome DJ and his dad to the Dearborn Heights Police Department” Dearborn Heights Chief Ahmad Haidar said. “Both our departments want to make his swearing-in ceremony a truly special event. Capped with a trip to Ford Field on Sunday for a big Lions win over the Browns, it’ll be a memorable weekend for both of them.”
