Mo Baydoun

Assumes role following resignation of Mayor Bazzi

HEIGHTS — Council Chairman Mo Baydoun has assumed the role of acting mayor effective immediately following the resignation of Mayor Bill Bazzi. Bazzi was recently confirmed by the U.S. Senate to serve as the next U.S. Ambassador to Tunisia.

In accordance with the City Charter, the Council chair becomes mayor pro tem in the event of a mayoral vacancy. As a result, Baydoun will serve in the role of acting mayor.

“I want to thank Mayor Bazzi for his service to our city and congratulate him on his confirmation,” Baydoun said. “It’s an honor to serve the residents of Dearborn Heights, and I’m ready to get to work right away.”

Baydoun emphasized his commitment to transparency, collaboration, and delivering real results for residents. “My vision is rooted in listening, acting, and leading with integrity. I will work closely with my colleagues on council, our public servants, police, fire, and local unions to bring fresh perspectives and long-overdue solutions. Together, we will build a city where every resident feels heard, respected, and proud to call home.”

Baydoun also said he remains focused on key priorities like public safety, city services, infrastructure, and neighborhood revitalization. He said his administration will ensure a smooth transition while keeping the public informed every step of the way.

The term for the next full-time mayor will begin on Jan. 1, 2026, following the outcome of the Nov. 4 general election.
