TAYLOR — The Wayne County Election Commission on Wednesday approved petitions to recall Mayor Jeffrey Lamarand and City Councilwoman Jill Brandana and council Chairwoman Cheryl Burke.
The commission hearing was held to determine the clarity of the recall language. It does not hold hearings to examine the veracity of petition wording.
The commission’s ruling is the second in two months involving Taylor. Last month members approved recall petitions against council members John Delo, Jacklyn Molner, Herman Ramik, Dennis Stapleton and Suzanne Weycker.
On the day those petitions were approved, Ramik resigned his council seat for health reasons. He was replaced by Councilman Rick Sollars, who now is the lone member of the body not be the subject of a recall effort.
The latest petitions were filed by Nancy Stawiarski, who formerly worked for the city as an intern. Lamarand and Burke in published reports chalked the petitions up to Stawiarski being a disgruntled former employee.
Stawiarski, disputes that characterization, citing positive performance reviews, and said she filed the recall petitions as a city taxpayer who is unhappy with the performance of the three officials.
