U.S. Rep. John Dingell (D-15th District, above left) greets retired Army Command Sgt. Maj. Joni Bridgens at ceremonies in honor of Armed Forces Day May 15 at Veterans Memorial Garden outside the Taylor Police Department in Priebe Plaza just east of City Hall while Mayor Jeffrey Lamarand looks on. In the photo below, Bobby Redding (left) of the Truman High School Band plays “Taps” as members of the Truman High School ROTC perform honor guard and flag duties during Saturday’s Veterans Memorial Remembrance in Taylor. Bridgens, who now is a physical education teacher at Taylor Parks Elementary School, served 26 years in the military and told the gathering that being part of the armed forces is “the right thing to do.”
