Daylia Strube, a 2-year-old from Wyandotte, discovers the joys of sunflowers during the Sept. 2 Farmers Market in Wyandotte. The market will close out its successful season this week, opening for a final bow for the season from 12 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the corner of Elm and First streets. To celebrate the successful first season, a culinary contest will be held Friday during the city’s 3rd Friday celebration. To participate in the contest, residents must register at the market and buy two or more ingredients from the market. Winning contestants and supplying vendors will receive prizes. On Thursday the Wyandotte Farmers Market will be ready to receive fresh produce donations (whether brought or bought) as part of Project Produce to benefit those in need. The donations will be distributed through Waynewright Community Meals and the Salvation Army soup kitchen.
