In the top photo, Darcy Wesley (left) of Detroit edges runner-up Kevin Friday of Canton Township in the 35-and-older advanced division at the Spirit of Detroit National Karate Championships, held Saturday at the Taylor Sportsplex. Above, Mark Menciano, 13, of Indianapolis, puts on his game face for an opponent. He won the grand championship trophy in black belt forms. Additionally, he received $100 and other prizes.
