Millage passes in Wyandotte

WYANDOTTE – A 1.75 mill operating millage has passed.

Voters cast 2,539 votes in support of the millage Tuesday, with 1,469 placing votes against it. A total of 4,023 votes were cast.

The millage was proposed in response to a $1.4 million budget deficit for the city. The millage is expected to generate $1 million each year for the next three years.

The city council originally voted 4-2 on a 3-mill levy, but revised the figure after the Michigan Attorney General’s Office sent a letter to the council in August alerting them that the office would reject their vote as it did not meet their definition of a three-fifths majority.
