Dearborn United head coach Mike Sears is hoping his varsity hockey team performs well on the ice during the current season. The local prep squad is made up of a combination of the three-public high schools in Dearborn: Edsel Ford, Dearborn High and Fordson.
Sears generalized his present team situation this way: “Our hockey team is in the Metro League and our players will be competitive as possible this year.”
Local fans would like to see DU be a winning factor in the Metro League 10-team mix.
Nearly all of the Dearborn United home games are played at the Dearborn Ice Skating Center. The indoor facility is on Ford Road, near Greenfield in east Dearborn.
Captains for the local icers are Cody Cowart of Edsel Ford and Mike Chodzko, of Dearborn High. Cowart is a junior forward and Chodzko is a senior defenseman player. Top goalie duties go to junior James Grenfell.
This past weekend, the DU icers hosted Ann Arbor Pioneer in a Metro League contest. After an away game held in Monroe on Tuesday, DU will be off during the holidays and start back up in January. New Boston Huron comes to the DISC on Jan. 11, when the starting puck drops at 7:20 p.m.
When Feb. 4 rolls around, the DU prep icers host the “Mayor’s Cup” in a special scheduled tilt with Dearborn Divine Child.
