Art of the city

A walk in downtown Lincoln Park this summer now includes a cultural showcase, with reproductions of six masterpieces from the permanent collection of the Detroit Institute of Arts on display at key locations along Fort Street and Southfield Road. Lincoln Park Mayor Patricia Diaz Krause — checking out Gerrit von Honthorst’s “Portrait of Sophia” outside City Hall — joined a group of friends, museum docents, local officials and others yesterday for a kickoff tour. The DIA’s “Inside Out” program, now in its fourth year, installs reproductions of nearly 80 works of art throughout metropolitan Detroit streets and parks. Lincoln Park residents are invited to visit the museum the first weekend of August and will receive free admission and discounts on gift shop or cafe purchases. Go to www.dia.org for more information.
