Detroit man arrested for OWI
A 38-year-old Detroit man was arrested for operating while intoxicated following a traffic stop near the intersection of Michigan Avenue and Brady at 11 p.m. March 28.
An officer on patrol on Michigan near Outer Drive observed a white Chevrolet Camaro traveling at an estimated speed of 50 mph in a 35 mph zone. The officer followed the vehicle and reported that the driver continued to speed and changed lanes erratically without signaling.
The officer initiated a traffic stop, and as the vehicle pulled over, the driver began making movements like he was hiding something by the passenger seat. He was removed from the vehicle and said he did not have a driver’s license.
As the man spoke, the officer detected a strong odor of intoxicants from him and observed that his eyes were bloodshot and he was having difficulty standing. When asked if he had consumed any alcohol the man said he had had two beers and half of another while driving. The officer searched the Camaro and found a half-empty beer can hidden underneath the passenger seat.
The man was arrested, handcuffed and searched without incident before being transported to the police department. The vehicle was towed from the scene.
At the police station the man submitted to a check of his blood alcohol content and registered a reading of .11 percent. The legal limit for driving in Michigan is 0.08 percent.
The man was cited for an OWI, no proof of insurance and driving with a suspended license.
Woman arrested for prostitution
Dearborn Police Tactical Team officers arrested a woman for prostitution at the Red Roof Inn, 24130 Michigan Ave., just after noon March 26.
While investigating prostitution in the city, officers found an ad online displaying a woman listing Dearborn and Detroit as cities where she was available to meet. An undercover officer used his department-issued cell phone to contact the woman, who said she was at the Red Roof Inn, and gave an amount of money for what a half hour of sex would cost.
Several officers arrived at the hotel and set up surveillance while the one who had made contact called again and was given the room at which to meet. The officer followed the woman into the room and was told to place the money on a table. At that time the other officers verbally identified themselves and entered the room. The woman was arrested for prostitution and handcuffed and searched before being transported to the police department.
The woman’s belongings were gathered and also taken to the department and her vehicle was towed from the scene.
