DEARBORN — Exchange Club of Dearborn will hit the streets May 10 for a collection drive at key intersections along Michigan Avenue, in support of the Dearborn Animal Shelter’s ninth annual Mutt Strut & Pet Expo.
Donations will benefit adoptable animals in the care of the shelter.
Adorned with bright vests, the canister collection team will be stationed at each intersection along Michigan Avenue from Outer Drive to Oakwood Boulevard, plus one satellite location at Dearborn Farm Market, 2645 Monroe St.
“Our members and volunteers are excited about lending a hand again this spring,” said Pat D’Ambrosio, Mutt Strut Committee chairman for the Exchange Club. “Many people driving down Michigan Avenue that day might not otherwise know about Mutt Strut, and this could be a great way for them to help too.”
Mutt Strut & Pet Expo is a pledge-driven dog walk and community wide animal celebration day. It is the largest gathering of pet fans in the area. Festivities take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Ford Field Park, 22051 Cherry Hill, with the walk commencing at 11 a.m. Register for the walk online at www.DearbornAnimals.org
Additional Mutt Strut highlights include a midway of vendors with services and products for pets and humans. There will be a Paws-itive Energy Zone with pet and human psychic readings, Doggie Fun Zone with activities for dogs, an adopted-pet Celebration Tent to honor adoption alumni and former Detroit Tigers pitcher Milt Wilcox’s Ultimate Air Dogs in a dock diving competition. Entertainment and free family fun events take place all day long. Food trucks also will be on hand serving a variety of street cuisine.
