Torched Bondie Street houses set for demolition

WYANDOTTE — The fires on the 200 block of Bondie quieted in March and two of the flame-ravaged structures are now headed for demolition.

The City Council voted unanimously Monday to demolish two of the structures.

There were four fires on the block, three houses and one garage. All of the houses were vacant at the time, and fire investigators say the blazes were intentional.

“There have been no arrests, but the fires stopped,” Fire Chief Jeff Carley said. “It’s an open investigation. During the investigation we have put pressure on some people.”

Carley said the demolition of the houses won’t impact the investigation, saying that investigators documented the evidence well.

“We have a limited snapshot into a structure and we photograph the entire scene,” Carley said.

Debra Page, whose garage was set on fire, is thankful the fire at her property wasn’t worse. She said there was damage to the garage, but the structure is sound.
