WYANDOTTE — A little more than two weeks after surgery, Mayor Joseph Peterson is upbeat and counting the days until he is back to work.

“I want to get back on my feet and back to city business,” Peterson said Wednesday, adding that he hopes to return for the Nov. 3 or 10 City Council meeting.

The mayor underwent hip surgery Oct. 2 at Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital.

Six months ago, Peterson said, the pain came out of nowhere and he tried many things to treat it. Finally, the mayor of five years bit the bullet and had the surgery.

He is doing in-house rehabilitation twice daily, and next week begins outpatient rehabilitation.

“I just keep going,” Peterson said, adding that if he sits still it is harder. “I’ve just gotta do the rehab.”

Peterson said he is thankful for the well wishes and kind words from friends, residents and family.

“I’ve received tons of get well cards from friends and citizens,” he said. “That just means so much.”
