DEARBORN — Police are seeking the public’s help in identifying the people involved in a smash-and-grab robbery Aug. 2 at N.J. Diamonds, 5601 Schaefer Road, in which a pickup truck crashed through the front of the store and all the jewelry stolen.

Surveillance footage shows a man with a bag and hammer exit a pickup truck about 4:45 a.m. while the driver reverses into the front glass doors, smashing into the business.

The video showed man then entering the store; taking watches, rings, and coins by smashing cases; then getting on a motorcycle with another man.

Both men don’t leave the scene immediately. Instead, the man who initially entered the store goes back inside to take more items.

The thieves completed the robbery in five minutes without setting off the alarm. The pickup truck used in the robbery was stolen earlier in the night in Southgate.

Police are investigating the incident.

People with information are asked to call 313-943-2241, or, if they wish to remain anonymous, they may call 800-CrimeStoppers. Crime Stoppers is offering a reward for information leading to the arrest of the people involved in this case.

“Crime reduction is a top priority of the Dearborn Police Department,” Police Chief Ronald Haddad said. “When these crimes occur, please know the utmost effort will be placed on identifying the offenders and bringing them to justice.”
