LINCOLN PARK – Medics Lt. Bob Wright and Sgt. Jason Milley were recognized at the March 2 City Council meeting by Fire Chief Steve Martin for protecting seniors at a local care facility.

Martin said two of his inspectors were involved in a run that was worthy of note.

“We received a complaint from a rescue crew that responded to a facility that was in charge of taking care of some elderly patients, and there were some complaints that maybe they weren’t being taken care of quite properly, and there were numerous violations,” he said. “The inspectors responded over there, and found that was indeed the case.”

Martin said the facility was found to have severe violations, and the elderly patients were not receiving proper care. He said medics made sure the patients got the care they needed, and that the violations were cited.

“We closed that facility down.”

He said Wright and Milley received the department citation for “the acts that they performed with unusual thoroughness, conscientiousness, determination and initiative.”

“I, for one, am very grateful,” Martin said. “They do a fantastic job, and I appreciate their efforts.”

The incident has been referred to the Wayne County Prosecutor and is under investigation, Martin said.
