WYANDOTTE — Wyandotte Deputy Police Archie Hamilton said the police department has taken a proactive approach to remove illicit firearms from the streets by using traffic stops when other specific illegal activity indicators are present.

A fully-loaded AK-47 style pistol was confiscated from a vehicle stopped for a minor traffic violation on July 14 in the 200 block of Biddle Avenue, in which a 26-year-old Redford Township man, whose vehicle reeked of marijuana smoke, was driving without a valid license or insurance. He was arrested for the weapons offense.

A loaded handgun with 16 rounds of ammunition was confiscated from underneath the front seat of a car on July 19 in the 500 block of Goddard Road, after a vehicle was stopped for having an improper license plate. The driver, a 54-year-old Lincoln Park man, was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon.

A loaded handgun was confiscated during a July 20 traffic stop for an equipment violation in the 2100 block of Biddle Avenue. The driver, a 35-year-old Trenton man, who was driving on a suspended license, was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon.
