WYANDOTTE — Antonio Cassone, 21, of Southgate was arraigned Aug. 20 on charges of fleeing and eluding, assault with a dangerous weapon, resisting and obstructing arrest and failure to stop after a collision, after fleeing a traffic stop and deliberately smashing into a pursuing police car.

Cassone, who was seen driving carelessly near Biddle Avenue and Emmons Court the night of Aug. 19, refused to stop when a police officer activated emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop.

The driver turned into a dead-end street, but then turned around and intentionally smashed into the pursuing police vehicle, before continuing to flee.

The man reached speeds exceeding 90 mph on southbound Biddle, ignoring traffic signals, before losing control and spinning out near Oak Street, disabling his vehicle.

He then attempted to flee on foot, but was overtaken by the pursuing officer within a few hundred feet.

Cassone was arraigned before 27th District Court Judge Elizabeth DiSanto, and was given a $10,000, 10 percent bond with a GPS tether.
