TAYLOR — An unidentified man committed suicide by stabbing in the parking lot of the Michigan State Police South Post, 12111 Telegraph Road Sept. 9.
While a trooper was standing at his patrol vehicle about 3:30 p.m. when the man pulled up, exited his vehicle and made suicidal statements while holding a knife. He already had a wound to his arm.
According to the MSP Metro Detroit Twitter account, troopers attempted to reason with the driver to drop the knife but he refused and began to repeatedly stab himself in the neck.
Troopers deployed Tasers to disarm the man. The knife was secured, first aid was immediately rendered and EMS requested.
Troopers escorted the ambulance to a local hospital where the male was pronounced dead on arrival. No other injuries were reported.
“This was a traumatic event for our troopers and our prayers go out to this individual’s family and friends,” the MSP Metro Detroit Twitter posted. “The pandemic and other events have been hard on all of us.
