TAYLOR — A 71-year-old Taylor man reported Sept. 10 that a woman he met on Facebook tricked him into depositing a $50,000 check for her, claiming she did not have a bank account.

She said the check was a grant to allow her to have facial reconstruction, and convinced him to withdraw $10,000 from his account, and purchase $9,000 in gift cards, sending the gift card numbers to her using an app on his phone.

He later discovered that the check was fraudulent, and his account was subsequently $10,000 overdrawn. Officials at his bank requested he file a police report in conjunction with their investigation.
