Traffic stop leads to drug arrest

WYANDOTTE — A traffic stop initiated the night of Sept. 11, near Biddle Avenue and Goodell Street, for an improper license plate, led to the arrest of the passenger for illegal drug possession, the citation of the driver, a 45-year-old Ohio man, for driving with a suspended license, and the impounding of the vehicle for the illegal drugs present.

The passenger, a 39-year-old Garden City woman, was in possession of drug paraphernalia, crack cocaine and heroin.

Deputy Police Chief Archie Hamilton said the incident is an example of the continuing ripple effect that follows proactive police work.

“These occupants had lengthy criminal histories, including numerous theft charges,” he said. “Their accounts of why they were driving around were inconsistent and lacked logic.

“Additionally, it is a well-known fact that illegal drug use and crime are related. Therefore, it can be reasonably assumed that this officer prevented a crime, likely a theft, by being proactive.”
