TRENTON — Curtis Murphy, a new Trenton resident, was honored by Mayor Steven Rzeppa Sept. 20 for coming to the aid of a stranger in the parking lot of the Woodhaven Target.
At the Sept. 20 City Council meeting, Murphy received a certificate of commendation after Rzeppa heard about the interaction through a story in a local newspaper about one month ago.
“I wanted to take the opportunity as soon as I read that story on finding out that Curtis was a Trenton resident that — I was joking that not sure if it was because he came to Trenton that made him a hero or because he was already a hero it attracted him to Trenton in the first place,” Rzeppa said. “Either way, I think it’s a wonderful way to highlight so many of the great people that we have here and makes our community really special.”
The certificate said that on Aug. 11, Murphy ran to the aid of a young mother who was in danger of dropping her infant daughter as she struggled against the wind during a heavy thunderstorm.
“His quick actions and decisiveness kept the baby from falling and avoiding serve injury,” the certificate read. “We thank Curtis for showing everyone how great Trenton and all of its residents truly are.”
Murphy was in attendance at the meeting with his wife and three children. “We were in Flat Rock and we bought our first home in Trenton,” he said. “So, just — I’m lucky to be in Trenton.”
Also during the meeting, Rzeppa personally thanked Murphy for being a wonderful person and welcomed him to Trenton.
