WYANDOTTE — A second-time operating while impaired offender was jailed after he struck a parked car Oct. 23 on Goddard Road near Lincoln Drive.

The driver, who smelled of intoxicants, was found inside the nearby Circle K store. His speech was slurred, and he had bloodshot, glossy eyes.

The man said he was on his phone at the time of the accident, which distracted him. However, he admitted to smoking marijuana earlier, as well as drinking beer.

He failed multiple standardized field sobriety tests. A preliminary breath test was administered, and the man had a blood-alcohol content of 0.17, more that twice the 0.08 limit for legally drunk in Michigan.

His driver’s license was currently suspended, and he had a previous 2021 conviction for operating while impaired. His license plate was confiscated, and a temporary plate issued.

He was transported to the police station, where he was booked and held.
