TAYLOR — A 63-year-old Ferndale man was arrested the night of Nov. 14 for his third operating while impaired offense.

Police responded to a call about a stranger banging on a residential door in the 26600 block of Ecorse Road, and found a man, with blood on his face, walking nearby.

The man said his white 2004 Chevy Express van had broken down on the nearby I-94 freeway, and he needed to call a tow truck.

While the police officers drove him to his vehicle, they noticed that his eyes were glossy, and he smelled of intoxicants.

The van had heavy front-end damage, driver’s side body damage, and a shattered driver’s side window. The man said he might have hit a tree, but he did not know where the collision might have occurred.

A preliminary breath test was administered, and the man had a blood-alcohol content of 0.113, higher than the 0.08 limit for legally drunk in Michigan.

His van was towed and impounded, and he was taken to Beaumont Hospital, Taylor, for a blood draw. His driver’s license was also confiscated.
