WYANDOTTE — A drunken 49-year-old Taylor man crashed into an electrical utility pole at 12:05 a.m. Jan. 31, which resulted in a live wire falling over the vehicle, putting him at risk of electrocution.

However, the man, who was highly inebriated, continued to loudly play his stereo and drink from an open liquor bottle while first responders tried to neutralize the live wire so he could safely be removed from his damaged vehicle.

The man refused a preliminary breath test, and a warrant was successfully sought for a blood draw. The man was arrested and housed at the Wyandotte police station.

Deputy Police Chief Archie Hamilton said the man’s refusal to take a PBT wasted taxpayer resources by forcing police officers to seek a search warrant from a judge for a blood draw.

“I commend these officers for not only saving the man’s life, but for their patience and professionalism,” he said.
