WYANDOTTE — A 9-month-old baby was taken to Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital after the boy ingested a large dose of illegal narcotics due to the reckless actions of his father, a 20-year-old River Rouge man, which was confirmed after a search warrant was obtained and the residence was investigated.

Child protective services will conduct a parallel investigation with police officials, Deputy Police Chief Archie Hamilton said, to help ensure the baby’s safety in the future.

The father was arraigned Feb. 19 on charges of second degree child abuse (a 10-year felony), and controlled substance possession (a 4-year felony) in front of 36th District Court Judge Laura Echartea.
