SOUTHGATE — Prompted by a concerned neighbor, police officers responded May 8 to the house of an elderly woman living in the 12000 block of Pearl Street, who had left her front door wide open for an extended period, without anyone seeing her.

Police officers checked the house, and did not find the woman or any signs of a disturbance or a break-in. They then called an emergency contact for the woman posted in the residence, and her son-in-law confirmed that she was fine and on an out-of-town trip with family.

The police officers then left a copy of the report on the kitchen table, and secured the house.
