DEARBORN – A new 75-foot aerial ladder firetruck, a Sutphen SL75 Quint, will be ordered to replace a 2013 firetruck which has surpassed its frontline service life and will become a “spare.”

The Fire Department is purchasing a Sutphen model to maintain standardization in its fleet, which is a mechanically sound practice among its vehicles.

The new firetruck helps ensure fleet stability, allowing the fire department to continue to provide the highest level of fire and life safety protection.

The firetruck will cost $1.1 million, and has an 18- to 20-month delivery lead time.

The current 2013 Sutphen SP75 Quint recently has required more frequent repairs, which are costly, and keep it out of service while it is being worked on.

The purchase is budgeted through the fleet, fire, public safety and capital equipment funds.
