HEIGHTS — An identity thief tried but failed to open a bank account in a 42-year-old Dearborn Heights man’s name with Bank of America, the victim reported Dec. 1 after he was notified of the attempt by mail.

The attempted fraud, which occurred Oct. 24, was initiated with a Zelle digital payment for $100, which was withdrawn the same day. The Bank of America fraud unit, which asked the man to file a police report, closed the fraudulent account. There were no suspects.
