LINCOLN PARK – The City Council reallocated $178,712 of its Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act funding from broadband infrastructure to improve city hall disability accessibility and senior center windows and programming.
During its research phase, city officials found that Lincoln Park already had broadband infrastructure in place, so it reallocated the money to still be compliant with the COVID tie-back requirements established by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The Community Development Block Grant program had information on eligible projects available for consideration.
City hall will gain improved access for people with disabilities by removing architectural barriers and installing automatic doors, which will also reduce touch surfaces which can spread COVID-19. The Americans with Disabilities Act modifications will have a budget of $90,519 to fund it to completion.
Senior center modifications and programming will have budget of $88,193, which will include new windows for improved air circulation, as well as programing to address mental health issues caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
