HEIGHTS — A Dearborn Heights man discover that he was a victim of identity theft Jan. 31 when Bank of American informed him by letter that a checking account and debit card had been acquired in his name, using his address and Social Security number.

Two transactions were made: one for $20 and another for $3,473, at ATMs in Houston, Texas.

The man was able to cancel the account. He turned over an email address that the identity thief used to police officers.
