RIVERVIEW — A 42-year-old Riverview man reported Feb. 9 that on Jan. 13 he learned that a checking account was fraudulently opened at a California bank using his identity information.

The victim said the identity thief used the account in an unsuccessful attempt to cash a $1,200 check. He said he successfully closed the account and had not lost any money.

He was given an identity theft packet and encouraged to monitor his credit report for other fraudulent activity.
