LINCOLN PARK – Mayor Michael Higgins honored the Lincoln Park High School DECA club during the June 5 City Council meeting for its first-place recognition during a recent international DECA conference in Florida.
DECA, the Distributive Education Clubs of America, an association of marketing students, received a proclamation and a key to the city as the mayor praised the group.
Higgins said DECA is an intensive, relevant and cooperative worldwide organization that helps prepare emerging leaders by providing them with experiences that will prepare them for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management.
He said when the LPHS DECA team recently attended the DECA international career development conference in Florida, joining 10,000 other DECA members from around the world, the group demonstrated its college and career knowledge and skills by participating in DECA’s competition event program.
“The Lincoln Park High DECA team earned a first-place win,” he said, amid applause.
Higgins said the LPHS DECA’s charitable project for Muscular Dystrophy research raised $7,263, more than any other DECA group.
“Congratulations to all the DECA students for their hard work and dedication,” Higgins said.
