LINCOLN PARK — Two attempted vehicle thefts were reported minutes apart in the same neighborhood Aug. 7, possibly involving the same white Jeep Cherokee.

A white Jeep was seen speeding away when a vehicle’s owner activated the vehicle’s theft deterrent alarm from inside his residence in the 1300 block of Chandler Avenue at 3 a.m. The Jeep drove west on  Cicotte Avenue toward Fort Street.

The complainant, a 46-year-old man, said there have been several unsuccessful attempts recently to steal his vehicle, which have prompted him to be vigilant.

A few minutes later one block east, a car alarm on a black Dodge Challenger was activated after a window was broken, dissuading a pair of potential car thieves at 3:09 a.m. in the 1300 block of Austin Avenue.

A nearby residential surveillance camera recorded a white Jeep Grand Cherokee entering the alley at 3:05 a.m. with two men inside. The men and vehicle fled four minutes later after they triggered the car alarm.

The neighbor went further back on his surveillance footage, and found theft attempts the two previous nights as well.
