MELVINDALE — A 28-year-old man who ran a stop sign at Homestead and Eddon streets the afternoon of Nov. 26, crashing into another vehicle, was arrested for outstanding warrants after initially fleeing the scene.

The man, who was driving a black Dodge Avenger, yelled and swore at his victim before driving away. However, as the man drove by the police station on Oakwood Boulevard at a high rate of speed, a police officer spotted him and the damaged vehicle, and initiated a traffic stop.

Once stopped, the man changed his story several times, lying about the circumstances of the crash, blaming everyone but himself. In addition, the man, who had bought the car several weeks earlier, had not transferred the title or registration to his name, did not have insurance and was using the previous owner’s license plates.

The man also had an outstanding arrest warrant for leaving the scene of a serious injury accident, in addition to other warrants. He was turned over to the St. Clair Shores Police Department, and his vehicle was impounded and towed.
