MELVINDALE — A drunken, speeding man in a black Ford Edge on Schafer Road was taken into custody the evening of Dec. 21 and charged with having open intoxicants in a vehicle, for resisting arrest and for speeding.

He also had active arrest warrants for manufacturing cocaine, for dangerous drugs and for weapons offenses.

When a traffic stop was initiated, the man blasted his sound system and initially refused to exit his vehicle, all while recording the police officers using his cell phone.

Backup was called, and the man finally exited the vehicle in an aggressive manner, at which time he was subdued, all while calling the police officers derogatory names and threatening to assault them when they were off duty.

A search of the vehicle revealed an open bottle of cognac.
