ALLEN PARK – Past Councilmember Dan Loyd was sworn in as the newest member of the City Council Jan. 23 following Tim Estheimer stepping down from the council to serve as city treasurer.
Estheimer became treasurer when Frank Liberati stepped down after the job recently changed from a full-time to a part-time position.
Loyd said he felt fortunate to be back on the council and to be able to serve the residents of Allen Park.
He said his priorities include looking at the city’s 50-year-old fire station, providing updates to the city’s library, and to pursuing improvements to the city’s infrastructure.
“But the main job of a city councilor is responding to the needs of the citizens as they come up and arise and I look forward to being given the opportunity to do so,” Loyd said.
Mayor Gail McLeod said she was happy to have Loyd back on the city council.
“He brings a lot to the table, and I have told people that he’s been my rock,” she said. “I’m very much looking forward to having him back.”
McLeod said Estheimer is settling quickly into his new role as city treasurer. She said Estheimer has “taken the bull by the horns” and is very organized.
“He’s going for training and just doing a super job,” McLeod said.
Estheimer said his new position is exciting and there is a lot to learn.
“Everyone here has been fantastic,” he said. “I feel like I am in the right position for the city and for my family.”
