SOUTHGATE — A Southgate woman reported that she received an email April 3 stating that she had been approved for a loan with an online lender for which she had not applied.

When she attempted to find out more, she was told to file a police report to initiate an investigation by the lender.

The victim said the identity thief used her email address. She provided the investigating officer with an address used on the loan paperwork, which was different from her own.

The woman said she was not out any money at this time. There were no suspects.
