MELVINDALE — A 50-year-old man was arrested for drunken driving at 2:40 a.m. March 24 near Outer Drive and Hanna Street following a traffic stop initiated when he was seen swerving on the roadway in a black Ford F-150 pickup.
The man, who was using his cell phone while driving, had glassy eyes and smelled of liquor. A record check revealed that his driver’s license was suspended, he had a warrant out of Detroit for drunken driving, and he had another drunken driving conviction as well.
He failed standardized field sobriety tests and refused a preliminary breath test, so a search warrant was obtained and he was taken to a hospital for a blood draw.
When the vehicle was searched prior to impounding, an officer found a shotgun on the floor of the rear seat, ammunition and two bottles of Jim Beam bourbon whiskey.
