MELVINDALE — A man who stole lottery tickets from 7-Eleven, 18210 Allen Road, at 12:30 a.m. June 24, while the clerk was away from the checkout counter, was later found by a Melvindale police officer.

The police officer studied 7-Eleven surveillance camera footage to ascertain the man’s appearance and clothing, then started looking for him while on patrol.

At 2:15 a.m., the officer spotted the man walking with a woman near Outer Drive and Dix Road. The man had lottery tickets in his possession. When the officer approached him, the man pulled out a knife, at which time he was electronically subdued, disarmed and handcuffed.

The woman, who has a history of faking seizures, appeared to be having one, so an ambulance was called. The lottery tickets were taken from the man, and he was cited.
