HEIGHTS – Resident Tim Emery was honored Sept. 24 by the City Council for his leadership, dedication and commitment to making his community a better place.

In a resolution presented by the council, Emery was lauded for his “exceptional leadership, unwavering dedication and unrelenting commitment” to serving his community “with distinction, compassion and an unshakeable resolve” to improve the lives of those around him.

Councilmember Hassan Ahmad said Emery’s commitment to the community spans decades.

He said Emery has helped inspire young people and foster financial literacy as a volunteer with Junior Achievement for the past decade.

Ahmad said Emery took the initiative in 1987 to set up the first reading computers in the Westwood School District, paving the way for modern educational tools.

He said Emery has supported the booster club at Robichaud High School, as well as several homecoming parades.

Ahmad said Emery has been involved in all-school picnics for 11 years, and played a key role in organizing the Robichaud Class of 1974 50th reunion.

Emery also mentored a First Robotics team from 1998 to 2002, which showed his support for science, technology, engineering and mathematical education.

Ahmad said Emery also served the city on the Tax Increment Finance Authority for more than 20 years, including serving as the chair, which highlighted his leadership skills.

He said Emery also made significant contributions to the Westwood Community Schools Board of Education, receiving a Level 7 president award in 2021, where he currently serves as the school board president.

Ahmad said Emery served on a committee in Dearborn Heights to help ensure the safety of children, advocating for their welfare.

He said Emery is also the past president of the Rotary Club of Dearborn Heights, through which Emery exemplifies the spirit of service and community engagement.

“Tim Emery’s extensive contributions to our community, education and youth make him a truly deserving candidate for this recognition,” Ahmad said. “Thank you, Tim, for your unwavering dedication and impactful service.”

Emery said he enjoys doing things.

“If you want something done, ask a busy person,” he said. “So, that is kind of how I get involved and keep involved.”
