MELVINDALE — A 37-year-old woman who was walking on Hanna Street the morning of Oct. 26 started screaming when a pit bull came out of a nearby backyard and reportedly chased her.

A witness corroborated her statement.

The woman, who was not bit, said a resident who heard her screams took the dog into her house when it retreated to her backyard.

The woman who allegedly sheltered the dog said she was aware of Melvindale’s pit bull ban, and she said the dog in her house was a mixed breed and belonged to her sister, who was staying with her while she was in the process of moving. The resident insinuated that the police call was made because the complainant disliked her.

The woman was told that she had 48 hours to remove the pit bull from the house, and was advised that there would be a follow-up visit in two days to ensure compliance.
