RIVERVIEW — A drunken 32-year-old Webberville man attempted to flee a hit-and-run crash the afternoon of Oct. 31 at Pennsylvania Road and Fort Street, but his victim followed him, then pulled in front of the vehicle until police officers could arrive and conduct a traffic stop.
The at-fault driver smelled strongly of intoxicants and was unable to answer the police officer’s questions.
When asked where he was, he replied “here.”
The man was slow and disoriented, and had difficulty retrieving his license, proof of insurance and registration. When he tried to bring up his proof of insurance on his cell phone, he didn’t realize that he was holding his phone upside down.
He failed standardized field sobriety tests. A preliminary breath test was administered, and the man had a blood-alcohol content of 0.314, almost four times the 0.08 limit for legally drunk in Michigan.
Two nitrous oxide canisters were found in the car, as was a half empty fifth of vodka. There were also several empty beer bottles on the back seat.
His vehicle was impounded and towed, and the man was taken to a local hospital for a blood draw, after which he was returned to the police station, where he was held.
