RIVERVIEW — A 39-year-old Southgate man who was seen swerving between lanes on northbound Fort Street near Huntington Street at 12:55 a.m. Dec. 4 was arrested for operating under the influence of alcohol, refusal to submit to a preliminary breath test and for driving with a suspended license.
The man, who had glossy, bloodshot eyes, had slurred speech and was uncoordinated when he attempted to find his license, insurance and registration.
He refused to attempt standardized field sobriety tests, and refused to submit to a preliminary breath test.
The man was taken into custody for operating while impaired. A record check indicated that he had two prior convictions for operating while impaired, so his license plate was destroyed and replaced with a paper plate, and his vehicle was impounded and towed.
He refused to submit to a blood draw, so a warrant was obtained, and he was taken to a local hospital for the procedure, after which he was returned to the police station, where he was held.
