MELVINDALE – The Michigan Association of Police posthumously honored Cpl. Mohamed Said as its officer of the year, Police Chief Robert Kennaley said at the Dec. 18 City Council meeting.

Said, who was killed July 21 in the line of duty, was recognized by the law enforcement union Dec. 13 at the group’s awards banquet.

A plaque was given to the Melvindale Police Department, which Kennaley said will be displayed in the public hallway by the front desk.

“It was great to remember Cpl. Mohamed Said,” Kennaley said.
