SOUTHGATE — Police officers and firefighters responded to Creative Montessori School, 12701 McCann Ave., the afternoon of Jan. 2 to speak to an onsite contractor who discovered a fire in a bathroom that was likely started by a ceiling fan.
The contractor was changing light bulbs in the gymnasium when alarms began to sound throughout the building. The source of the alarm was determined to be in the green hallway, room 116, where fire was visible near a ceiling fan in the corner of the room, and had worked its way down the nearby bathroom wall.
Southgate firefighters extinguished the blaze, and the school principal arrived to reset the alarms and lock up the school.
