LINCOLN PARK – Mayor Maureen Tobin declared March as DeMolay Month in Lincoln Park during the March 10 council meeting, honoring a group that bars females from its membership, during Women’s History Month.
The City Council did not recognize Women’s History Month during its first March meeting.
Five members of the local Order of DeMolay led the Pledge of Allegiance, and were commended by the mayor and council for its philanthropic work.
DeMolay is a leadership organization for young men ages 12 to 21 that focuses on character development, leadership skills and community engagement. It was founded in 1919, is affiliated with Free Masonry, and is affiliated with a local Masonic Lodge.
Females are not allowed to join DeMolay or the Masons.
The Order of the Eastern Star is open to men who are Master Masons and their female relatives, spouses and descendants of Master Masons.
Job’s Daughters International is a youth organization for girls and young women ages 12 to 20 and is affiliated with local Masonic Lodges.
