Dearborn police make arrest in domestic violence after multi-jurisdictional pursuit

June 12, 2025 By Times-Herald Newspapers Leave a Comment

DEARBORN — A Dearborn man was arrested for domestic assault June 9, two days after the suspect escaped in a semi-truck tractor, police said.

The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office charged Ali Ahmed Zbib, 55, with domestic violence assault, malicious destruction of police property, and fleeing and eluding in 19th District Court before Judge Mark Somers. He was issued a $100,000 cash bond along with a GPS tether.

A probable cause conference was set for June 18, and a preliminary examination of the evidence against Zbib was set for June 25.

About 6 p.m. June 7, police responded to the 5000 block of Argyle Street following reports of a domestic violence incident. Zbib fled to a nearby parking lot where he entered a 2016 Freightline semi tractor.

As officers approached Zbib, he drove the semi tractor into an occupied police vehicle before leaving the parking lot with Dearborn officers in pursuit. The pursuit came to an end at Telegraph Road and Champaign Street in Taylor as a result of his dangerous and erratic driving, police said.

Over the next 48 hours, Zbib eluded capture by fleeing from several neighboring jurisdictions.

On June 9, Dearborn Police Special Operations officers located Zbib driving the semi tractor in Detroit. After a lengthy surveillance operation, officers arrested him without further incident.

“This individual led officers from multiple area agencies on a dangerous pursuit while driving erratically, putting others in danger,” Police Chief Issa Shahin said. “I commend our Special Operations and patrol officers and thank our partner agencies for their cooperation in bringing this suspect to justice.”
