Dearborn Heights Police investigate June 17 shooting involving 2 vehicles

No injuries reported; person of interest sought

HEIGHTS – Police are investigating a June 17 shooting near the Taylor border that reportedly took place between two vehicles.

Officers responded to the area of Hipp Street and Powers Avenue the afternoon of June 17 following multiple reports of shots fired. On arrival, they spoke with witnesses who stated a black SUV and gray pickup truck may have been involved, but had left the area.

The pickup was located a short time later by a police officer, who after a brief investigation, confirmed the vehicle had been struck by gunfire. As part of their followup, Investigators were able to identify  a person of interest, and search warrants were issued.

The investigation is still in progress, and on its conclusion all information will be submitted to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office for review.

“The Dearborn Heights Police Department wants to make it clear that we will not tolerate gun violence in our city” Police Chief Ahmed Haidar said, “and the persons responsible for this incident will be held accountable.”
