DEARBORN – A suspect was taken into custody July 5 following a July 4 road-rage attack on George “Judo” Whittaker, 83, of Dearborn near Michigan Avenue and Nowlin Street.

About 4 p.m. July 4, police responded to calls about an assault following a road rage incident that resulted in an altercation.

Whittaker was taken to a local hospital, where he was treated for a broken hip and a possible concussion.

Witnesses came to the aid of the victim and provided critical information to the officers responding to the scene.

The suspect was driving a dark green, older model GMC or Chevy pickup, and left the scene driving east on Michigan Avenue.

Police officers, who checked the surveillance cameras of local businesses to develop leads, were able to identify a person of interest, who was arrested July 5 by Dearborn Special Operations police officers.

Police Chief Issa Shahin said violence on roadways will not be tolerated.

“We are grateful to the good Samaritans and local businesses who quickly stepped up to support our investigation and bring the suspect to custody,” he said. “We wish the victim a full and speedy recovery.”

The investigation is ongoing. Those with additional information should contact the Dearborn Police Department at 313-943-2241 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
